GDPR

For users in the European Union, we adhere to the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the Eurpean Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016, known as the General Data Protection Regulation (the “GDPR”). For users in the United Kingdom, we adhere to the GDPR as enshrined in the Data Protection Act 2018.

Personal Data

We will not collect any additional data beyond the data listed below without notifying you first. If you choose not to provide us with the personal data below,  or if we are unable to collect that data, we may not be able to provide you with certain services or information, or may not be able to carry out an activity you have requested.

We may collect the following data when you perform certain functions on our site:

  1. First and last name;
  2. Date of birth;
  3. Email address;
  4. Phone number; and
  5. Address

This data may be collected by signing up for free content, signing up for our newsletter or creating an account. The data we collect when the user performs these functions may be used for the purpose of communication and provision of services.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our solopreneur community login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish a comment, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Who we share your data with

When users request a password reset, their IP address will be included in the reset email.

Data collected on our site will only be used for the purposes specified in this Privacy Policy or indicated on the relevant pages of our site. We will not use your data beyond what we disclose in this Privacy Policy.

We may disclose user data to any member of our organisation who reasonably needs access to user data to achieve the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy.

How long we retain your data

Should you decide to leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights:
