Michelle Knight has had extensive charting and GIS experience in both the public and private sector, using a variety of tools during her career.
Michelle has created charts, both static (paper) and interactive (online), for a wide variety of clients including the NZ Police, NZ Fire Service, NZ Transport Agency, Land Information NZ (NZ government cartographic agency), numerous city councils, and numerous international ANSPs.
By sharing her passion, Michelle has been successful in promoting the advantages of using GIS and charting in various projects, which would otherwise not have benefited from these skills.
Michelle has been an active member on the committee of the NZ Cartographic Society. She has organised a few consecutive, very successful national children’s mapping competitions. The winner of which, gets forwarded onto the international (ICA) competition.
Her role as conference director for New Zealand’s only national cartographic conference (GeoCart) and her work as an Area Coordinator for the Cancer Society enabled her to use and hone her planning and organisational skills, along with the negotiating and compromising skills necessary to keep most people mostly happy, most of the time.
